The proliferation of connected devices and the exponential growth of data-intensive applications have fundamentally altered the landscape of the media and entertainment industry. In a traditional cloud computing model, data generated by user devices is sent to a central server for processing, and the response is sent back. This round-trip journey introduces latency. Edge computing represents a paradigm shift designed to overcome these challenges. By moving compute resources, storage, and processing power from centralized data centers to remote locations at or near the exterior boundary of the network (the "edge"), this architecture drastically shortens the distance data must travel. By mitigating the latency, bandwidth, and cost limitations of centralized cloud computing, the edge enables the seamless delivery of high-definition streaming, responsive cloud gaming, and immersive AR/VR experiences. This shift is a fundamental architectural change that unlocks new possibilities for content creation, distribution, and consumption in the media and entertainment sector. This paper explores various use cases of edge computing in media and entertainment sector.
